I need to figure out some of the specifics regarding the subscriber chat. Once I do that I'll start a thread.

Niccolo Soldo's avatar

This will be for paid subscribers only as I can imagine the hell that would be unleashed if everybody could participate.

Those of us who pay can raise Hell too, thank you very much.

Nice idea but totally useless for those that access via laptop / desktop. For clarity this includes myself.

It's an add-on feature, but be safe in knowing that the articles will remain the central focus and continue to generate the most traffic on this site.

Can you advise on whether notifications that new messages are on the app will be emailed out continuously and how one might switch this off if one is a desktop/laptop-er, or what the default on notifications will be

I hope the app goes well.

It only works on mobile, and if you do choose to download the app no emails will be generated. All notifications will appear on the app itself, which you can choose to "snooze".

If emails do get generated (they've assured me that it doesn't happen) do let me know and I will chimp out.

Hmm, I have the app, but I don't see the chat icon

If I'm not mistaken this feature has only been rolled out on iOS for now. Android users will have to wait.

Niccolo Soldo's avatar

Android as of earlier today as well.

Ioana S's avatar

Right. Will need to update the app then. See you've waited until everyone can access it...or you're an Android user yourself ;)

I have a paid subscription

Then you probably need to update the Substack app in your mobile.

Mat Huizing's avatar

And I have just updated the app. Hmmm...

Mat Huizing's avatar

Maybe it only works on iphone? (This is an ipad).

Niccolo Soldo's avatar

Only iPhone and Android.

I don't have it yet either. The app seems to be a work in progress, it was basically impossible to comment using it for a while since the position of the typing thing would jump around as you input letters, but that seems to be fixed now

Useless for me if it doesn't work on the web.

Everyone I know accesses Substack from their desktop/laptop. It is, after all, a long-form tool...not a Twatter replacement. This would be a great feature on the desktop, but this is mostly Substack trying to get us all to load its app and I, for one, am not going there. Please get them (or ask in any case) to put the chat tool onto the desktop/laptop where it might be more-than-interesting. Thanks

Hi Niccolo. I want to subscribe for chat facility, already a regular. How do I pay extra or do you adjust automatically? Excited.

Niccolo Soldo's avatar

You don't have to pay extra. I just adjust it so that only paying subscribers can participate.

Just my opinion but the content is so varied and consistent in quality you should at least explore a moderate increase in sub. Maybe 7 euro?
