The lack of diplomatic acumen in the State Dept has been a long term problem in US policy, or lack there of. The morons we’ve had as SecState down to the rank and file (for decades) is an egregious example of US hubris, bolstered by a deep ignorance of history and diplomacy. Finally, we have some adults in the room. That said, I wasn’t happy with war-whore/Neo-Con Rubio as SecState, but Trump will mold him. Better there than wasting a space in the senate.

Great appointment. Cheers to anon occupied government. The White House will have a soldo wing, bap wing, and west wing.

The difference between color revolutions and “the coordinated efforts of government bureaucrats, NGOs, and the media to oust President Trump” is that Trump committed a number of impeachable offenses. For which he was justly and properly confronted by the House of Representatives. That he was not convicted by the Senate was due simply to the stone wall of Republican party loyalty, which put the interests of the party above the welfare of the nation.

Many threads converge on Marco Rubio.

I have wondered about the crowd around you, or drawn to you, Niccolo. From the interviewees I gather you are part of the thick of things, leading a charmed life amongst the more literate and thoughtful of the powers that be, a man of unacknowledged influence. Beatties' appointment supports that perspective.

If you can, another interview with Beattie or so would be great. Maybe after the Marines take Ottawa and Trudeau is in Guantanamo.

He met them in a Corsican prison. The one where they lock up all the handsome smugglers.

Happy for you personally - but fuck everything else that’s happening right now

Congratulations Darren!

Congratulations Mr. Soldo. You may need to update the perks of a paying subscription with "potential placement into positions of power" in addition to the standard height increase.

Wow, it seems like more has happened in the last two weeks than the prior 50 years. Maybe the closest comparison would be Roosevelt’s 100 days. Not what I was expecting from Trump but I love it. I’m feeling optimistic about the future of this country for the first time in decades.

Let’s go! I got close to a nomination myself but politics etc. You are def influential and essential to informed thinking!

In the 2020 interview, Beattie said that the high point ofTrump‘s administration was when he used the phrase “shit hole countries” and then didn’t back down or apologize. Pure temerity - “Mexicans are rapists” - is the special ingredient. Trump stood strong against withering abuse, a decade long daily assault.

Who can survive that!

My take: as a consequence of not backing down he is now 100% inoculated, their attacks are ineffectual. He is at liberty, he has earned the right to act as if he has real power, power unlike any chief executive (President) since FDR. He has restored the power of the executive branch and is now, it would appear, unimpeded, he has the prerogative, open ground, a clear path.

What an accomplishment. Certainly the greatest political accomplishment of my lifetime.

It is my intention to point this out to all my liberal friends. I expect in the future I might have less friends, but I’m willing to forgo friendship in order to fuck them.

Well, at least we’ll know who informs your opinion. Sovereignty. Who cares?

You're a funny guy, but you and your faction are going to be in so much trouble if the Trump/Elon recklessness results in pain for Americans. There's a lot of bloat and perverse ideological incentives in the fed, yeah, but I have no doubt that some of it is load-bearing.

A little pain now is worth our survival. And the truth is worth even more.

Who says it's gonna be a little? These are very high risk maneuvers.

Compared to what?

I can give some examples if you like.

The online right talks of Brazilification, but if Trump staffs an actually important agency with incompetent toadies, if Elon shuts down something that mattered, that's a move towards Brazilification.

The tariffs in particular could have a very bad effect on the economy. Lots of people who voted Trump were hoping for groceries to get cheaper, I'm not entirely convinced a lot of his base is willing to suffer personal economic repercussions to stick it to the libs.

Carlos are you American?

Next- those aren’t incompetents, not that given the last 35 years that’s an issue.

They’re just not corrupt or disloyal- to the Constitution or country- and the core competence of our government through 1159 EDT January 20th was corruption and disloyalty to the Constitution and country.

Although- they were getting pretty competent at actual deliberate harm. That’s why for instance groceries went up, in particular gasoline (that’s food distribution) chicken and eggs via active killing of chickens. Perhaps Trump’s sacking of USDA head will help.

A little possible pain now will increase chances of survival next.

You see they still want us dead, our children raped and they probably still think it’s funny, although they’re scared now.

This isn’t about grocery prices anymore, which is why I asked if you’re American, cuz you ain’t getting us.

Cheers.

Well, as any Puerto Rican, I am an American citizen, but not white or fixated on identity politics, whether they come from left or right.

I'm not sure what's the percentage of Trump voters that are MAGA, and further, which percentage of MAGA thinks whites are in an existential conflict, care to take a guess at those percentages, and also, how you arrived at them?

You’re not wrong. The Trump campaign ran on the baseline promise that things would improve economically. If they keep the economy on a straight path, they can do anything they want. If it startles, they lose the mandate for everything else.
